Interview with Tracey Devlyn, author of Roaming Wild

What can you tell us about your new release, Roaming Wild? Roaming WILD takes place in the mountains of western North Carolina and is a friends-to-lovers story fraught with intrigue and page-turning action. It’s also the newest book in the acclaimed Steele Ridge series. In Roaming WILD, lifelong friends Deke Conrad and Evie Steele team up to stop a ruthless wildlife trafficking ring. A subject that’s near and dear to my heart. Deke’s a special agent with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and he’s using Evie’s traveling Med Mobile as cover while he tracks down the kingpin. Along the way, Deke fights his attraction for his best friend’s little sister. But Evie’s having none of it. I loved writing Roaming WILD and hope readers love it, too! What’s the last book you read?

I just finished the audiobook of Zero Day by David Baldacci. It’s the first book in his John Puller series. Now I’ve moved on to the second audiobook–The Forgotten. Love the main character in this series. He’s well-defined, complex, and sexy as, well, you know. Also, I’m a few chapters away from completing Jeffrey Gettleman’s Love, Africa: A Memoir of Romance, War, and Survival. It’s an amazing glimpse into a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist’s drive to return to Africa–a continent I’ve been obsessed with for years.

Who are your literary heroes working today? Why do you admire them? I’d like to tell you an author who wrote one of the classics, but all my gratitude goes to the authors who first made me fall in love with the written word — Virgina Henley, Johanna Lindsey, Lisa Kleypas, Madeline Hunter, Julia Quinn, and so many more amazing writers. Who is your favorite couple from literature? Lisa Kleypas’s Derek Craven and Sara Fielding. They’re perfectly opposite, in every way. (Dreaming of You) What’s a typical day like for you? I’m up by 5:00 am (even on the weekends!). After feeding the dogs and letting them out, I fix myself a bowl of cereal or, if I’m feeling frisky, a bowl of Qia. Next, I grab my phone, key up Gaia.com, and enjoy 20 minutes of yoga and meditation. Then I plop in front of the computer for about 15 minutes to check email and other admin stuff. If it’s a weekday, I shower and head to the day job. At lunch time, I do more admin stuff and get in some writing. I’m generally home by 5:30 pm to have dinner with my family. Then I give everyone a hug before heading to my office for a few hours of writing time. On the weekend, I write in the morning, shower, and spend several hours with my family. Then I dive back into writing later in the day and into the evening. Sleep. Repeat. BAM. You’re a superhero. What’s your superpower? Reading minds would be both a blessing and a curse, but I’d take it. Maybe my genius sidekick could make me a cool hat that would block out the ugly, when I’ve had too much. What scene in Roaming Wild was your favorite to write? Wow, that’s like asking a parent to select their favorite child. Nope, I can’t do it, because I loved so many scenes in this book–Deke and Evie’s first kiss, Evie dining with the Steele clan, Deke interacting with the SONR team, Dylan consoling the cubs, Eli with his mother, Evie kicking Eli’s butt. . . See, it’s impossible to pick just one! Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by? Be a good person. Work hard. Be present.
