Interview with Stephen Perkins, author of Sorcerers’ Dynasty

What can you tell us about your new release, Sorcerers’ Dynasty? Sorcerers’ Dynasty deals with the growing philosophical quandary of the relationship  between humanity and artificial intelligence. Through posing the fundamental question of nature versus nurture, the big reveal concerning the true identity of the protagonist in Sorcerers’ Dynasty poses a mythological archetype in a heroic role normally designated as a villainous force for evil. In the end, after considering the thought provoking content of the narrative, the reader may be forced to ultimately question the role of the media, government, as well as science and technology.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Although this list is by no means definitive in terms of what could be considered the best books one has ever read, the following could be considered to have made a seminal cultural impact or perhaps the most influential on one’s development as a professional writer:

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

The most fascinating fictional literary world one would wish to visit that comes immediately to mind would be the world skillfully built in the narrative of Jurassic Park.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

If one were fortunate enough to be posed as the host of a literary talk show host I suppose my first guest might be Steven King, if only to provoke some discussion of the intricate and perhaps inherent relationship between the human subconscious and the concept of fear.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

As a writer one gets to play the role of a god or creative force, creating a new world no one has visited before with the power to decide the epic fate of fictional characters; who lives, and who dies, who shall taste triumph or ultimate ignominy.

BAM. You’re a superhero. What’s your superpower?

As a writer one is already a superhero, in that one possesses the god-like power to create and destroy entire worlds, and decide the fate of who lives or dies.

What scene in Sorcerers’ Dynasty was your favorite to write? Writing the entirety of Sorcerers’ Dynasty was most enjoyable, but if forced to choose one scene that may be considered a creative favorite, it could be the big reveal towards the latter part of the book during the ‘big reveal’ where the reader is faced with shockingly discovering the true identity of the book’s protagonist, Dan Sheraton. Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by? If there is one motto one lives by as a writer, it is that imagination is truly one of the highest of human virtues.
